About Us

Integrated OH&S is a team of professional occupational, health & safety management consultants. We were formed in 2003 where we began providing safety management services primarily in the energy industry. Over the past 5 years we have grown to include a wide spectrum of industries and have expanded our expertise to include oral fluid testing technologies. Our services include program and policy development; such as safety programs, drug & alcohol policies, and complete QHSE management systems (Quality, Health, Safety & Environment). We also specialize in QHSE project management and perform field-based safety services for a number of clients. Our services are facilitated by a team of experienced senior safety consultants with a variety of backgrounds and expertise.

Our mission is simple.

"Integrated OH&S is committed to providing the highest standards and performance of safety management through customized, practical and workable solutions."

Over 3 years ago we began to explore more practical and feasible solutions for our clients conducting workplace drug & alcohol testing. Our clients were struggling with a number of challenges associated with traditional testing methods. Our original intention of seeking out better testing solutions focused on the adulteration and logistical issues plagued with traditional urine testing. As we started to research oral fluid testing technologies, the benefits beyond even our original intentions were incredible. Oral fluid not only dealt with adulteration and logistical issues, but it detected "recent use". This is important as it aligns with an employer's legislated occupational, health & safety responsibilities. The benefits were so significant that we decided to invest a lot more time, money and effort in researching the technology for our clients.

We spend another 8 months researching the technology. This included visiting most the major manufactures of oral fluid POCT (Point of Collection Test) devices - or instant on-site drug screens. Our research had two major conclusions. One, the viability and scientific merit of oral fluid as a testing specimen for illicit drugs was completely sound and supported with substantial documentation. Two, the majority of oral fluid POCT devices performance was extremely poor. This was primarily due to the process undertaken by the individual manufactures. However, there were two manufactures that had oral fluid POCT devices that performed very well.

Once we were confident in the technology's ability, we introduced it to a number of our clients. With relatively minor amendments to their existing drug & alcohol policies (procedurally the policies remained the same - only the actual mechanism for the prescribed testing changed), our clients implemented oral fluid testing. Every single client that implemented oral fluid testing was extremely satisfied with the results. It provided a practical and workable solution for the challenges presented by urine testing and made implementation of the policies much easier. The introduction was so positive that we decided to test the market and sell the oral fluid POCT devices beyond our safety clients. As we went through this test period and sales grew, it gave us the opportunity to learn more about the market environment; particularly how ready industry was for oral fluid testing technologies.

Today, Integrated OH&S offers comprehensive safety management and oral fluid testing expertise. We have added the brightest people in these fields to our team. We continue to grow our safety management consulting and are asked to participate in speaking engagements and presentations on oral fluid testing technologies. These are opportunities to dispel the myths regarding the technology and highlight the benefits and value it brings employers.
